Wheee! Yesterday it was +14 here, and today it was -5 with a blizzard/whiteout conditions.. And yes, today I went shopping.. Go figure..
I'm new to the whole thrift-store shopping thing/buying used items thing.. I don't know how to record most of it.. I mean, ya, I only pay $2 or whatever, but when it's used, how do you compare that fairly to a new item? So I'm not going to count anything that was used.. But, that being said, I've gotten a few new items at insanely reduced prices via thrift-stores and online used sales.. I'll include those.. Because if it's new with tags (or new without tags), I CAN compare that to going into XYZ store and buying it off the rack, right?
So sometime last month I fell in love with a shirt on an online auction.. I was kind of unsure about spending $8 on a shirt (ya, I'm that cheap!).. But I kept going back to it.. And in the end, I got the shirt for $8.. When I put it on for the first time yesterday, I looked at the tags on it.. I paid $8.. The shirt had a regular retail of $60!! Wow! That's a $52 savings!! (I'm sure the seller I got it from didn't pay the $60 either.. But who cares.. I got a $60 shirt for $8!!)
Yesterday and today, Tanya and I ventured to a "Bag sale" at a thrift store.. If you've never heard of a "bag sale" they are amazing! You pay a flat rate (In this case, $5) and you get to stuff as much of whatever clothes you want, any size, brand, style, gender, etc into the bag.. So over the course of our two trips to the store, I spent $20.. I scored 5 pairs of pants for hubby, lots for Melanie, some for both of the boys, and tonnes for me.. Including a couple of new with tag items.. There was a designer top (estimated value $30), a pair of Old Navy jeans (Regular $40), and a pair of American Eagle jeans ($45 regular).. I also scored a new (in plastic, in box..) Pampered Chef bread tube.. I can't find them on the Pampered Chef website, but they are $20 each on Amazon.com.. So, not including the 4 shopping bags of used clothes I got for my $20, I got $135 worth of new products!
